About Teori Shannon

Founder, Preserving for the Future | Taxidermist, Educator, Environmental Advocate

Teori Shannon is a Perth-based taxidermist and educator whose work integrates environmental science, conservation, and artistic preservation. His passion for Australia’s native flora and fauna began in 2006 through wildlife rehabilitation at Native Arc (WA Wildlife Hospital), Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, and Naragebup Environmental Centre, where he cared for a diverse range of species — from turtles to bats and bandicoots — as well as tending to display animals in public organisations and supporting vulnerable species.

Training under the Senior Preparator at the Western Australian Museum, Teori refined his expertise in ethical specimen preservation and anatomical accuracy — an approach that has earned recognition across the museum and conservation sectors.

Since 2011, he has delivered specialist services and workshops for leading institutions including the Western Australian Museum, Perth Zoo, Belmont Hub, Gwoonwardu Mia, Erth Visual & Physical Inc, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and the City of Fremantle. He has also exhibited live animal displays and delivered public engagements at Perth Fringe World Festival, Pony Express’ Ecosexual Bathhouse, and SymbioticA’s Biomess exhibition.

His programs spanning avian and mammalian taxidermy, insect preservation, and wet specimen techniques equip participants of all backgrounds with practical, hands‑on natural history skills.

Teori’s work has featured in museum exhibitions, art festivals, and feature films, blending scientific precision with creative storytelling to honour each specimen’s ecological context. Media appearances on ABC Radio Perth and Perth Artists have further highlighted his insights into the educational role of taxidermy in fostering wildlife awareness.

As founder of Preserving for the Future, Teori champions ethical sourcing in compliance with Regulation 52 of the Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2018 conservation education, and community engagement. His workshops aim not only to teach technical skills but also to inspire a deeper appreciation for Australia’s biodiversity and the cultural significance of its wildlife.
