About Teori Shannon
Founder, Preserving for the Future | Taxidermist, Educator, Environmental Advocate
Teori Shannon is a Perth-based taxidermist and educator whose practice bridges the disciplines of environmental science, conservation, and artistic preservation. His deep-rooted passion for Australia’s native flora and fauna began with a career in wildlife rehabilitation, where he worked as an environmental scientist focused on restoring ecological balance and supporting vulnerable species.
Recognizing the power of taxidermy as both a scientific and educational tool, Teori trained under the Senior Preparator at the Western Australian Museum, refining his skills in specimen preservation and anatomical accuracy. His meticulous attention to detail and ethical approach to working with native fauna quickly earned him recognition across the museum and conservation sectors.
Since 2011, Teori’s expertise has been sought by leading institutions including the Western Australian Museum, Perth Zoo, Belmont Hub, Gwoonwardu Mia, Erth Visual & Physical Inc, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and the City of Fremantle2. His workshops—ranging from avian and mammalian taxidermy to insect preservation and wet specimen techniques—have empowered students of all backgrounds to engage with natural history through hands-on learning.
Teori’s work has been featured in museum exhibitions, art festivals, and feature films, where his ability to merge scientific precision with artistic storytelling has created compelling displays that honor both the subject and its ecological context. He has also appeared in media segments such as ABC Radio Perth and Perth Artists, where he shares insights into the educational value of taxidermy and its role in wildlife awareness.
As the founder of Preserving for the Future, Teori continues to champion ethical sourcing, conservation education, and community engagement. His workshops are designed not only to teach technical skills but to foster a deeper appreciation for Australia’s biodiversity and the cultural significance of its wildlife.
